(Hebrews 4:13) Praise the Lord! I was raised up in Christianity in the Baptist church. My folks were in the nucleus of the church, and I had to attend every Sunday school meeting. I was in everything: Usher boy, junior deacon, choir, yet I never knew the Lord.
So at 12th grade, I got really turned off to the Lord and became atheist. I went off to college, and I used to really like to give the Christians a hard time. When this Christian began to pray, just before he ate, I would look at him to make him feel self-conscious. One time he told me, The Lord has red eyes, and He is going to be looking at you with those red eyes. So I faked a prayer just to get him off my back.
I actually always wanted to know about the Lord, but I do not like to be pressured. When I was in the army, in Vietnam, this executive officer that I was staying with gave me a book on how to study the Bible. I already had the army issue New Testament. My job was to count rounds that the artillery battery fired, and I kept my rounds in a cave which I used to go to every day. I just wanted to read the Bible for a while, just on my own, no pressure, nobody telling me anything.
I was reading the word, and I was reading how to study the Bible, and it got to the point where it says, Do you really know the Lord? I knew that I didn't really know the Lord, so I just got on my knees and I prayed to the Lord. I touched the Lord right there by myself, and I walked out of that cave, and, Boy! The world must be coming to an end! I looked up; the sky was so bright! Boy, it was really great! So, that's how I met the Lord. Praise the Lord!
